This trip wasn’t about checking landmarks off a list — it was about studying. Studying how a place layers history, restraint, and quiet confidence into every surface.
Portugal has a way of making design feel effortless. Architectural curves that soften modern structures without losing strength. Tilework that repeats rhythmically, never shouting, always grounding. Buildings that feel lived-in, not overworked — timeless instead of trendy.
Inside, the story continues. Sculptural objects placed with intention. Natural materials allowed to age beautifully. Deep, moody blues paired with warm brass. Marble bathrooms that feel both grand and intimate, where symmetry and proportion do all the talking. Nothing excessive. Nothing accidental.
What struck me most was the balance:

A sculptural stone vanity anchors the space, balanced by graphic wallpaper, warm brass accents, and a minimalist round mirror that softens the lines. Every material was chosen to create contrast, depth, and a sense of quiet luxury—proof that even the smallest rooms deserve thoughtful design.

A two-story atrium taking shape at 3667 Toulouse—designed to be experienced from both the upper and lower levels of the home.
At the center, a Jacaranda tree will be enclosed by a custom louvered wall, allowing southwest light and natural airflow to filter through while maintaining architectural intention. The finished space will feature an interior deck for modern simplicity, orchids woven into the lower branches, and subtle uplighting to create a dramatic, living focal point—offering a striking view from the dining room and beyond.
